Description

Japan-based manufacturer of twin-shaft and three-shaft gear pumps, and twin-screw pumps for coastal tankers and high-viscosity fluids.

Engineering Knowledge

General engineering guidance only — it may contain errors. Always follow the equipment's own documentation and the judgement of a qualified engineer.

Cargo pump cofferdam cannot be purged (no air, inert gas, or liquid from check pipe).

Check the purging medium supply for insufficient flow or absence. Inspect valves, hose connections, and the purging medium relief valve, ensuring it opens at approximately 3 bar. Additionally, check the exhaust trap and deck piping for blockages and clear them if found.

Cargo pump cofferdam is blocked.

Disconnect the check pipe from the pump unit (lower seal house), being cautious of possible pressurized liquid. Purge carefully to determine if the blockage is in the check pipe or the pump/pipe stack cofferdam. Use steam or solvent to dissolve the blockage, depending on the medium. Dismantling the pump may be necessary. Perform a leak test after reassembly.

Cargo leakage to pump cofferdam is observed.

Perform a leak test on the pump cofferdam system at approximately 3 bar. Check for leakage, using soapy water if necessary to pinpoint the source. This test is crucial before and after any dismantling to confirm the location of the leak and successful repair.

Cargo leakage to pump cofferdam due to worn cargo seal.

Replace the cargo seal set. Carefully inspect the ceramic sleeve for any damage or wear. If no leakage is detected during a leak test, a worn cargo seal is the likely cause, especially if the upper seal lip seals when the cofferdam is pressurized.

Cargo leakage to pump cofferdam due to leaking seal element in flange connection.

Check for loose bolts and pitting corrosion in the seal faces. Repair any corrosion found. When reassembling, replace any damaged seal elements.

Cargo leakage to pump cofferdam due to crack or pinhole in piping.

Hydraulic oil leakage to pump cofferdam is observed.

Drain the pump return side before dismantling. Disconnect the pump head/unit from the pipe stack/casing. Pressurize the pump unit return side to approximately 4 bar and check for leakage to the cofferdam side. Perform a leak test on the pump pipe stack/casing at a maximum of 7 bar on the cofferdam side and check for leakage to the return side.

Hydraulic oil leakage to pump cofferdam due to leaking shaft seal.

Replace the shaft seal. The replaced seal should be reconditioned if feasible.

Hydraulic oil leakage to pump cofferdam due to leaking seal element in flange connection.

Check the sealing surface for possible damage and repair if necessary. When reassembling, renew any damaged seal elements.
