Cofferdam cannot be purged (no air, inert gas, or liquid from check pipe)

Check valves, hose connections, and the purging medium relief valve (should open at approximately 3 bar). Inspect the exhaust trap and deck piping for blockages and clear them if possible.

Cofferdam is blocked and cannot be purged

Disconnect the check pipe from the pump unit (lower seal house), being aware of possible pressurized liquid. Carefully purge to determine if the blockage is in the check pipe or the pump/pipe stack cofferdam. Use steam or solvent to dissolve the blockage, or dismantle the pump if necessary. Perform a leak test after assembly.

Cargo leakage into pump cofferdam

Perform a leak test on the pump cofferdam system at approximately 3 bar. Check for leakage, using soapy water if needed to locate the source. If no leakage is detected during the leak test, a worn cargo seal is likely the cause.

Worn cargo seal causing leakage to cofferdam

Replace the cargo seal set. Carefully inspect the ceramic sleeve for any damage or wear.

Leaking seal element in flange connection causing cargo leakage

Check for loose bolts and pitting corrosion in the seal faces; repair corrosion if found. When reassembling, renew any damaged seal elements.

Crack or pinhole in piping causing cargo leakage

Contact a Framo Service Station for assistance.

Hydraulic oil leakage into pump cofferdam

Drain the pump return side before dismantling. Disconnect the pump head/unit from the pipe stack/casing. Pressurize the pump unit return side at approximately 4 bar and check for leakage to the cofferdam side. Leak test the pump pipe stack/casing at a maximum of 7 bar on the cofferdam side and check for leakage to the return side.

Leaking shaft seal causing hydraulic oil leakage

Replace the shaft seal. Recondition the replaced seal if feasible.

Leaking seal element in flange connection causing hydraulic oil leakage

Check the sealing surface for possible damage and repair if necessary. When reassembling, renew any damaged seal elements.

Crack or pinhole in piping causing hydraulic oil leakage

Contact a Framo Service Station for assistance.
