Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF) was initially developed in the mid-1960s by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. National Foam's AFFF 6% is a synthetic aqueous film forming foam concentrate.
• Within National Foam's AFFF offerings, the AFFF 6% is designed for hydrocarbon fires, requiring a 6% proportioning rate. Other AFFF products from National Foam include AFFF 3%, which is used at a 3% concentration for hydrocarbon fires, and AR-AFFF (Alcohol-Resistant Aqueous Film-Forming Foam) concentrates like Universal Gold 1%/3% and Centurion 3%/6%, which are designed for both hydrocarbon and polar solvent fires at varying concentrations.
• The AFFF 6% is specifically formulated for rapid knockdown of Class B hydrocarbon fuel fires by creating a vapor-suppressing aqueous film. It offers excellent fluidity and is suitable for use with fresh or seawater, as well as with foam-compatible dry powder extinguishing agents.
