- The Simrad EK80 wideband echo sounder was launched by Kongsberg Maritime on May 29, 2015, at the ICES symposium on Marine Ecosystem Acoustics in Nantes, France. It was developed in collaboration with leading marine institutes.
- The EK80 is a high-precision scientific echo sounder that supersedes the popular Simrad EK60, which had sold over 1,100 units and was an international standard for fish stock assessment. The EK80 represents a significant advancement in acoustics for ecosystem monitoring.
- The EK80's primary strength lies in its wideband echo sounder technology, allowing it to operate on frequencies from 10 to 500 kHz simultaneously.
