- The Furuno FMD-3300, alongside the FMD-3200, was announced for launch in autumn 2012, with availability beginning shortly after April 2012. This series was developed to meet the ECDIS mandatory carriage requirements that began phasing in from July 2012.
- The FMD-3300 is part of Furuno's high-performance, modular ECDIS series, designed for medium-to-large SOLAS vessels (over 10,000 GT). It utilizes a standalone processor unit (EC-3000) with separate high-resolution marine monitors and control consoles, distinguishing it from the all-in-one panel architecture of the FMD-3100.
- The FMD-3300 is chosen for its intuitive, task-based user interface, which provides quick access to functions through a Status Bar and InstantAccess Bar, minimizing the need to navigate complex menu trees. It also features an advanced chart-drawing engine that delivers instantaneous chart redraws, ensuring seamless zooming and panning without delays.
