The MAN Energy Solutions V28/33D engine series was developed from the Ruston RK270/280 design. The 20-cylinder prototype received type approval from Det Norske Veritas (DNV) in May 2010.
The V28/33D is a V-type, medium-speed engine, positioned within MAN's four-stroke engine portfolio. It offers a higher power output compared to the in-line L21/31 series and is designed for applications requiring high power density.
This model is chosen for its high power density, fuel efficiency, and compact design, making it suitable for naval vessels, fast ferries, and offshore applications. It also boasts a low power-to-weight ratio and compliance with IMO Tier II and EPA Tier II emission regulations.
