• The 6EY18AL is the 180 mm-bore member of Yanmar's EY series of medium-speed four-stroke marine auxiliary engines — an in-line six with a 180 × 280 mm bore and stroke, rated around 400–615 kW at 900 rpm to drive a shipboard generator.
• It is the smallest bore in the EY auxiliary range, sitting below the 220 mm 6EY22 and the 260 mm 6EY26. The larger bores cover higher genset and propulsion outputs, while the EY18 serves the electrical demand of small and mid-size vessels.
• A defining feature of the EY series is heavy-fuel capability: the engines are built to burn residual fuel oil of up to 700 cSt at 50 °C as well as marine diesel oil, so a ship can run its auxiliaries on the same low-cost heavy fuel as the main engine.
