- The MAN 32/40 engine series, from which the 12V32/40 is derived, was first introduced to the market in 1994. It was developed as a smaller bore extension of MAN Diesel & Turbo's 'new generation' medium-speed engine program.
- The 12V32/40 is a V-type engine within the 32/40 family, which also includes in-line configurations (L32/40) with 6, 7, 8, or 9 cylinders, and other V-type models with 14, 16, or 18 cylinders. The 32/40 series is considered a 'workhorse' in MAN Energy Solutions' portfolio, designed for continuous operation in small to medium-sized applications.
- The 12V32/40 is chosen for its high power density and efficiency, capable of operating on heavy fuel oil (HFO) across its load range. Its design focuses on reliability, long maintenance intervals, and reduced emissions, complying with IMO Tier II standards.
