The Volvo Penta D13 engine family was first introduced in 2005, with the North American market seeing its debut in 2007 to meet emissions standards. Volvo Penta launched the D13 as a new inboard marine diesel for commercial applications in 2010, offering 700 hp and 800 hp versions. In August 2017, Volvo Penta launched the 1000hp D13, marking their entry into the 1000-plus horsepower recreational boating segment.
The D13 is a high-output, 12.8-liter, in-line six-cylinder engine designed for substantial motor yachts and demanding commercial vessels. It sits above the D11 (10.8-liter) and D8 (7.7-liter) in terms of displacement and power, and below the D16 (16.1-liter) within Volvo Penta's marine auxiliary engine range.
The D13 is chosen for its robust design, high torque at low RPM, fuel efficiency, and low emissions, making it suitable for a wide range of marine auxiliary applications. Its compact and space-saving design also facilitates easy installation and service.
