- The MSA G1 SCBA was formally launched in November 2014, following its unveiling at the 2014 Fire Rescue International conference. It was designed from the ground up based on customer feedback and new NFPA standards. MSA has a long history in breathing apparatus, entering the market in 1917 and introducing its first firefighting breathing apparatus in 1936.
- The G1 SCBA is presented as MSA's most technologically advanced and customizable SCBA. It serves as a replacement for the discontinued AirHawk II SCBA, with upgrade kits available to transition existing AirHawk II users to the G1 platform.
- The G1 SCBA is distinguished by its integrated technology, including a central power system for all electronics and a facepiece designed without electronic components to reduce weight and snag hazards. It also features electronic voice amplification as a standard, enhancing communication.
