- The Stamford AS540 Automatic Voltage Regulator is an analog, 2-phase sensing, self-excited AVR. It is provided as a standard component with Stamford S0 and S1 alternators.
- The AS540 is part of Stamford's AS series of analog AVRs, which also includes the AS440 and AS480. It sits alongside other analog series like the SX (e.g., SX460, SX440) and MX (e.g., MX341, MX321) series, as well as digital AVRs like the DM710 and DM730.
- The AS540 is specifically designed for high-speed diesel generator sets (1500/1800 rpm) and is optimized for fast governor response. It also incorporates an interface for an optional auxiliary winding, which can improve motor starting performance and sustain short-circuit current.
