- The Stamford AS440-N, an analogue, 2-phase sensing, self-excited automatic voltage regulator (AVR), is a component of the excitation system for brushless generators. It is supplied as standard with STAMFORD S4 and HC5 alternators and is an option for STAMFORD UC22 and UC27 alternators. The AS440 has replaced the earlier SX460 model, which is now obsolete.
- The AS440 is positioned as a compact, lower-cost alternative within Stamford's AVR range, suitable for 10-100 kVA units and typical commercial load profiles. It is considered an upgrade to the SX460 for the UC22 and UC27 ranges. Higher-end options like the MX341/MX342-2 offer enhanced environmental resilience with features like dual redundant sensing and an IP65-rated enclosure, while the AS540 is optimized for high-speed diesel sets.
- The AS440-N is chosen for its reliable performance, accurate voltage regulation within ±1% under steady-state conditions, and its compact design utilizing Surface Mount Technology (SMT). It includes built-in protection features such as over-excitation, loss of sensing, and under-frequency protection, and offers optional paralleling capabilities for multi-generator configurations.
