• The Wärtsilä Sulzer RT-flex35 engine was introduced as part of a product development project that began three years prior to its first order in January 2010. This engine belongs to the RT-flex series, which are low-speed two-stroke marine diesel engines featuring electronically-controlled common-rail systems for fuel injection and valve actuation, a technology pioneered by Sulzer and further developed by Wärtsilä.
• The RT-flex35 is positioned at the smaller end of Wärtsilä Sulzer's low-speed engine range, with a 350 mm cylinder bore. It is part of a series that extends to larger engines like the RT-flex96C, which has a 960 mm bore and is the largest reciprocating engine in the world.
• The RT-flex35 is chosen for its optimal power and speed combinations for small to medium-sized cargo vessels, including handy-size bulk carriers, product tankers, and feeder container ships. Its electronically-controlled common-rail system provides benefits such as low fuel consumption across the operating range, reduced exhaust emissions, smokeless operation at all speeds, and stable running at very low speeds.
