The Bergen B32:40 series is a four-stroke, turbocharged, medium-speed engine that builds on the heritage of Bergen's BR- and BV models. The B-series engines were first introduced around 1986.
The B32:40 is part of Bergen Engines' B-series, which also includes the more modern B33:45 liquid-fueled engine and its gas-fueled variant, the B35:40 and B36:45 respectively. It sits above the C25:33L and C26:33L series in terms of power output.
The B32:40 is chosen for its robust design, high efficiency, and fuel flexibility, capable of operating on marine diesel oil (MDO) and heavy fuel oil (HFO). It is also noted for its low life-cycle cost and ability to meet IMO Tier II NOx emissions without after-treatment.
