The Bergen C26:33 is a gas-fueled variant that emerged from the C-series, which was initially launched in 2002 by Rolls-Royce as a compact diesel engine (C25:33). The C26:33 gas variant entered production around 2010 to address the increasing demand for low-emission propulsion, with the first unit entering service in early 2011.
The C26:33 is part of Bergen Engines' C-series, positioned alongside its liquid-fueled sibling, the C25:33. Within the broader Bergen Engines portfolio, the C-series offers power outputs ranging from 1.4 MW to 3.0 MW, making it suitable for applications requiring space-efficient power solutions, in contrast to the higher power output B-series engines.
The C26:33 is chosen for its exceptionally low emissions, achieving IMO Tier III compliance without the need for Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and significantly reducing NOx, CO2, SOx, and particulate matter compared to diesel counterparts. It also offers excellent fuel efficiency, fast load response, and stable frequency, making it suitable for both propulsion and genset applications.
