- The WinGD X72 is part of the Generation X series of low-speed two-stroke engines. WinGD, originating from the Sulzer Diesel Engine business founded in 1893, introduced the X-series engines to meet modern vessel efficiency and environmental regulations.
- The X72 sits in the middle of WinGD's X-engine series, which ranges from the X35-B to the X92/-B in terms of bore size. It is positioned for a variety of vessel types, including Suezmax tankers, Capesize bulk carriers, and Panamax/Sub-Panamax container vessels, while larger engines like the X92 are designed for ultra-large container vessels.
