- The UEC50LSE is part of the LSE series, which began development in 1998, building upon the successful LSII series. The first UEC50LSE was completed in July 2005 in collaboration with Wartsila Switzerland.
- The UEC50LSE is a medium-bore engine within J-ENG's LSE series, positioned between smaller engines like the UEC45LSE and larger ones such as the UEC60LSE. The LSE series generally features a higher stroke/bore ratio, brake mean effective pressure (BMEP), and mean piston speed compared to the LSII series, making it suitable for larger and faster modern ships.
- The UEC50LSE is designed for high performance, low fuel oil consumption, and high reliability, making it a suitable main engine for Handymax and Panamax bulk carriers, as well as feeder container ships. It incorporates a cylinder lubrication system (SIP system) that significantly reduces cylinder oil consumption while maintaining low wear on piston rings and cylinder liners.
