Engine fails to start
Verify starting air pressure is sufficient. Check for any active shutdowns related to turbocharger lube oil inlet pressure, jacket cooling water inlet pressure, hydraulic low pressure sensors, thrust bearing high temperature, main bearing lube oil inlet pressure, or oil mist detector. Ensure the turning gear is disengaged and there are no CCU or tacho failures.
Turbocharger lube oil inlet pressure shutdown
Investigate the cause of low turbocharger lube oil inlet pressure. The shutdown set point is 0.80 bar, and the system activated at 0.82 bar during testing.
Jacket cooling water inlet pressure shutdown
Address the low jacket cooling water inlet pressure. The shutdown set point is 1.00 bar, and the system activated at 1.00 bar during testing.
Main bearing lube oil inlet pressure shutdown
Check for issues causing low main bearing lube oil inlet pressure. The shutdown set point is 1.30 bar, and the system activated at 1.34 bar during testing.
Engine over speed shutdown
Confirm the over speed trip setting. During testing, the engine shut down at 97.2 rpm, with a set point of 97.0 rpm.
Piston ring Alu-coat peeling off
Inspect the piston rings for peeling of the Alu-coat. Acceptable limits are a maximum of 3% of the circumference for a single peeling off, or 10% total. If multiple areas are peeling, and the distance between them is less than twice the size of the smallest peeling, they are considered a single area.
High differential pressure across SCR chamber
Reduce urea supply pressure to 1 bar. If the issue persists, reduce pneumatic supply pressure to 2 bar for scavenge air and select engine mode Tier II.
Low reductant supply pressure
Check the urea injection system. If one of the two pumps fails, the alternative pump should switch on automatically. If the failure alarm is triggered, continuous SCR operation is not possible.
High gas temperature before SCR chamber
Reduce the alarm setpoint to 310 °C. If the alarm is still triggered, reduce the setpoint to 300 °C. If the alarm persists, switch to Standard Tier II mode without SCR operation.
High gas temperature after SCR chamber
Reduce the alarm setpoint to 330 °C. If the alarm is still triggered, reduce the setpoint to 320 °C. If the alarm persists, switch to Standard Tier II mode without SCR operation.
