- The MAN B&W S90ME-C is a series of super-long-stroke, two-stroke, low-speed marine diesel engines. The S90ME-C9.2, a specific iteration, completed its test bed trials in July 2012. This engine was developed to meet the demands for lower propeller speeds and the newly introduced Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI).
- The S90ME-C series is part of MAN B&W's electronically controlled (ME-C) engine program, which succeeded the mechanically-controlled (MC) engines introduced in 1983. The S90ME-C9.2 was based on the S90ME-C8, which was optimized for Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs). The G-type engines, such as the G95ME-C, were later introduced as a supplement to the S90ME-C, offering even larger cylinder bores and stroke-to-bore ratios for further de-rating and improved efficiency.
