The MAN B&W S50ME-B engine series was launched in early 2007, building upon the existing small-bore S35ME-B and S40ME-B designs introduced in mid-2006. This series extended the application of MAN Diesel's electronic control concept to its small and medium-bore two-stroke engines.
The S50ME-B is part of MAN B&W's 2-stroke engine portfolio, specifically within the 50cm bore size range. It sits alongside the S50ME-C and S50MC-C/MC engines, offering an electronically controlled fuel injection system while retaining a camshaft for exhaust valve operation, unlike the larger bore ME engines.
