- The Sigma Coatings brand, under which Sigmacover 280 is sold, was formed in 1972 from the merger of three companies, including Pieter Schoen & Sons, which began grinding pigments in the Netherlands in 1722. PPG acquired SigmaKalon, the expanded form of Sigma Coatings, in 2008.
- The Sigmacover 280 is positioned as a universal epoxy anticorrosive primer within the PPG SigmaCover range, suitable for a broad array of marine and industrial applications. Other primers in the Sigmacover range include Sigmacover 350, a high-build polyamide cured anticorrosive epoxy primer/coating, and Sigmacover 400, a high solids general purpose epoxy primer.
- Sigmacover 280 is chosen for its versatility as a universal epoxy anticorrosive primer, offering excellent adhesion to various metals, good water and corrosion resistance, and the ability to cure at temperatures as low as 5°C (41°F). It is also suitable for application on wet blast-cleaned substrates and is compatible with cathodic protection systems.
