- The Sigma Coatings brand, under which Sigmacover 456 is sold, originated from the merger of three companies in 1972, with roots tracing back to 1722 in the Netherlands when Jan Pieterszoon Schoen began grinding pigments. PPG acquired SigmaKalon (which included Sigma Coatings) in 2008.
- Sigmacover 456 is a general-purpose epoxy buildcoat or finish within the PPG SigmaCover range, designed for protective coating systems. Other coatings in the SigmaCover series include primers like Sigmacover 400 and 410, and specialized coatings like Sigmacover 435 (MIO pigmented) and SigmaShield 460 (glass flake reinforced).
- Sigmacover 456 is chosen for its versatility as a high-build, polyamide-cured recoatable epoxy coating suitable for steel and concrete in atmospheric, land, or marine conditions. It offers good adhesion to aged coatings and can cure effectively even at temperatures as low as -10°C (14°F) and in high humidity.
