The Sigma Coatings brand, under which Sigmashield 420 LT is sold, was formed in 1972 through the merger of three companies, including Pieter Schoen & Sons, which began grinding pigments in the Netherlands in 1722. PPG acquired SigmaKalon (which included Sigma Coatings) in 2008.
The Sigmashield 420 LT is part of the broader Sigmashield range, which offers heavy-duty reinforced epoxy coatings for demanding environments. Within this range, it is positioned as a reinforced high solids polyamine adduct cured epoxy coating, suitable for cargo tanks and as a buildcoat for underwater systems, distinguishing it from products like Sigmashield 880, which is primarily designed for offshore splash zones.
Sigmashield 420 LT is chosen for its ability to cure at low temperatures (down to -10°C or 14°F), excellent abrasion and impact resistance, and outstanding resistance to seawater, making it suitable for cargo tanks and underwater applications.
